After a loss, do you rush to get even? Many proprietary traders have fallen because of this one reckless push.

In the previous article, we compared proprietary trading to a football club: the platform is like a demanding coaching staff, hoping to find truly capable players through trials, while traders are like players on the pitch, earning long-term cooperation opportunities through their ability.

But for a professional player, getting the jersey and actually stepping onto the pitch is only the beginning.

The real professional arena is never a playground where anything goes.

No matter how talented a player is, the team inevitably has its match discipline and tactical boundaries—because what the club needs is never someone who occasionally produces a stunning big win, but a player who can stay on the pitch steadily over the long term.

The drawdown limits in proprietary trading actually follow the same logic.

They are not meant to tie traders' hands, but to draw a bottom line for risk: when the market is unfavorable and trading suffers setbacks, can your account still remain within a range the platform can accept?

Apply this logic to EagleTrader Max, and those seemingly somewhat complicated risk control rules become clear at once.

01|Daily drawdown: You cannot mess up the whole match just because you conceded a goal first

Suppose the match has only just begun and your team concedes a goal first. What is the most dangerous thing at this point?

It is not the temporary 0:1 score, but that the players, eager to equalize, begin to deviate from the original tactics.

Defenders keep pushing forward, attacking players rush to shoot, and opportunities that should have been patiently built up turn into hurried attacks.

The result is often not pulling one goal back, but completely disrupting the formation and then conceding a second and third goal in succession.

Trading is the same. The first loss of the day is not necessarily a serious problem in itself.

What truly tends to make an account spiral out of control is starting to rush to win it back after a loss, trading more and more frequently, and taking increasingly aggressive positions.

Therefore, EagleTrader Max sets a 3% daily maximum drawdown limit.

It is more like the risk boundary in a match: it allows you to make mistakes today, but never allows one rough patch to let the risk of the entire trading day expand without limit.

(Note: Max's daily risk control is also calculated dynamically with reference to the account's highest watermark for the day. That is, if you have already made some profit that day and then experience a significant drawdown, you need to constantly pay attention to how much room remains before the daily risk control line.)

02|Account maximum drawdown: Fluctuations in form are allowed, but you cannot keep collapsing the match

A player cannot maintain peak form in every match throughout the entire season.

Playing a little better today and a little worse next match is completely normal; the club will not reject a player because of one mistake.

But if performance continues to deteriorate and has crossed the bottom line acceptable to the team, the coaching staff will naturally need to reassess: can this player still stay on the pitch?

The 7% account maximum drawdown follows a similar logic. This rule focuses not on a single trade, but on whether risk is effectively controlled as the entire account continues to operate.

Traders can experience periodic drawdowns, but what the platform really needs to see is: when market conditions are unfavorable, you have the ability to control losses and prevent risk from continuing to expand.

03|Dynamic high-water mark: Once performance improves, the new performance becomes the new benchmark

This is the point that confuses many people who are new to proprietary trading accounts the most.

Let's continue using the football club as an example. When a young player first joins the team, the coach's requirement for him may just be to steadily complete basic tasks.

But if he performs well for several matches in a row and gradually becomes a regular starter, then the standard by which he is evaluated will naturally not remain forever at 'as long as he can finish the match.'

After performance improves, the new performance becomes the new reference.

Max's dynamic high-water mark mechanism works exactly this way.

Suppose a $100,000 account keeps setting new highs after trading for a period of time.

As the historical high-water mark rises, the risk line corresponding to the maximum drawdown will also be adjusted upward according to the rules.

This means: the account may still be above the initial $100,000, but that does not mean the risk space is still as large as it was at the beginning.

Because the platform not only looks at how much profit you have made compared with the start, but pays more attention to how much the account has drawn down from the highest level it has ever reached.

Therefore, the more the account hits new highs, the more you need to reconfirm your risk space, rather than treating the profits already in hand as chips you can spend freely.

EagleTrader Max eliminates multiple rounds of upfront profit target assessments, providing traders with a more direct path to get started.

But the club (the proprietary trading platform) will never cancel match discipline because of this—no matter how one gets the chance to play, what ultimately determines how far a person can go is still his ability after he truly enters the match.

What proprietary trading platforms look for is also never a trader who never loses, just as a football club will not require a player to make zero mistakes throughout the entire match.

What truly matters is that even when the account suffers a loss, the trader knows where risk should stop.

For EagleTrader Max traders, understanding these rules is not about staring at numbers and trading cautiously every day, but about having a clearer judgment of your risk space before actually placing an order.
